This was part of the wider regeneration of the Tea Building, originally a block of early twentieth century warehouses operated by Lipton Teas. The Shoreditch Rooms element involved the construction of a bespoke 26-key hotel within and above the existing structure of an old pub. Behind the retained historic façade, an entirely new building was constructed, comprising of basement and five upper floors.
Of the new floors, three of them are visible in the form of an extension that stands at the principal corner of the site. Comprising of a twisted corten volume punctuated with deep slot windows it provides a dramatic contrast with the restored façade below, whilst materially complementing the adjacent warehouse buildings.
The hotel was built for Soho House, and links to their Shoreditch House private members club.
